Gogol and Poltava. Poltava and Gogol. The genius writer and the land, which gave him to the world – all this got forever deposited not only in the souls of Ukrainians, but all admirers of Nikolai Gogol's works as well. And it's very symbolic that he was born exactly on April 1. Therefore, it's impossible on All Fools' Day not to remember the author of the unfading "Vechera na khutore bliz Dikanka" (Nights on a hamlet near Dikanka), "Revizor" (The Inspector General), "Myortvye Dushi" (Dead Souls) and no less great writings, which when the writer was still alive became classical and brought him universal fame. Among them a famous "Nos" (Nose). Therefore, from now on, in Gogol and his works' honour there has been originated "The Gold Nose" in Poltava – the official prize for "Gogol's World" nomination. This nomination has become the main theme of the International Contest of Caricatures "Carluka," which traditionally opens in our town exactly on April 1. By the way, "The Gold Nose" is quite a "natural product" – a sculpture, devised by famous Russian caricaturists Mikhail Zlatkovski and Sergei Tyunin, and created by a famous Ukrainian caricaturist Oleg Dergachyov.

The second theme of the contest of caricatures "Carluka-2007" is a free theme.

Best works are published on the pages of the Ukrainian and foreign newspapers and magazines, as well as posted on websites of professional caricaturists of various countries.
